Illustrating Boston

We’re inviting artists from across Greater Lincolnshire to take part in the summer phase (July–September 2025) of Illustrating Boston—a year-long creative project exploring the town’s influence on visual storytelling, journalism, and publishing.

At the heart of the project is the creation of The Illustrated Boston News: a community-led, printed publication that reimagines the spirit of The Illustrated London News through a contemporary lens. Each edition combines historical inspiration with current-day themes and creative approaches.

We are currently commissioning artists to contribute to the summer edition of the publication. This is a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with local residents, run public workshops, and help shape a vibrant, visual portrait of Boston today.

We’re looking for artists who:

  • Work in illustration, printmaking, drawing, graphic storytelling, collage, or other visual media

  • Are passionate about place-based, socially engaged practice

  • Are excited to deliver three or more creative workshops with the Boston community

What you’ll do:

  • Co-create a printed, community-led edition of The Illustrated Boston News

  • Lead public workshops to gather stories and create new work

  • Help bring local voices, creativity, and perspectives to life through visual storytelling

Summer activity runs: July–September 2025
Open to artists living or working in Greater Lincolnshire
Apply by 12pm, Monday 14th July 2025
