Arts & Heritage Photographer/Filmmaker Commission Brief
Arts&Heritage (A&H) are seeking a photographer/filmmaker based in or near East Lincolnshire to support a project in partnership with Story Tellers – Arts in Heritage.
Arts in Heritage is a programme of creative storytelling which inspires local creative practitioners to partner with local heritage sites, organisations or places and people with heritage stories, traditions and research.
In this next phase we are supporting heritage organisations to commission an artist to respond to their specific stories and environments.
The heritage partners are:
Tattershall Castle
Spalding Gentleman’s Society
Horncastle History and Heritage Society
St Peters and St Paul’s, Kirton
Each is in the process of issuing a brief that will commission an artist, with outcomes planned for between March – May 2027.
Story Tellers is an arts and cultural programme bringing people together across East Lindsey, Boston and South Holland to celebrate local heritage and tell the stories of place in new and creative ways.
Through its Arts in Heritage strand, the programme is supporting heritage organisations to develop their commissioning skills and artists to create new work inspired by local histories, communities and places.
The programme is generously funded through Story Tellers’ Arts Council England funding.
Arts&Heritage seek a filmmaker/photographer to document the selected artists' process.
Overview
Location: South and East Lincolnshire
Documentation Budget including artist fee: £2,500 including VAT
Application and Breakdown of Quote Deadline: 5pm, 30th October
Appointment by: 14th November 2026
Commission Timeline: December 2026 – May 2027
The Brief
A&H forges collaborations nationally between artists, communities and museums and heritage sites.
The purpose is to document key stages in the life of the projects. This will include:
A site visit to each partner to interview commissioner and artist
Documenting workshops or development process where useful/possible
Documenting resultant project outcomes, events or installations
The film/photographs will be used by A&H, Story Tellers, the partners and the artists as mechanisms for engaging a wider audience via web and social media, and as an archival record of the project.
The film must give an accurate record of the site and the artist’s work during production and its final public presentation.
It is also important the film incorporates:
People from each partner organisation introducing their heritage and their ambitions for the place and the artist’s work
The artist talking about how they have responded to the brief
Any community participation in the co-creation of the work
The film is aimed at a public, arts and heritage audience.
Deliverables
Clips of film footage documenting the commission
Give an overview of the 4 projects
Short interviews with artist and delivery partners
Documentation of the commission through photography
Ensure permissions and approvals are collected and signed
Create assets that can be used as an advocacy tool by artist, heritage partners, Story Tellers and Arts&Heritage
You will be expected to attend meetings with A&H personnel, site staff and artists appropriate to the delivery of this Brief.
Arts&Heritage will work with you to make sure you deliver this work in accordance with health & safety guidelines issued by the government, but you will be expected to take responsibility for your safety and ensure you do not place yourself at risk at any point.
